Very friendly model railway show which includes approx 30 high quality model railways in a range of scales. The show is bigger in 2017 as we have secured a large additional exhibition space within the school. Layouts range in size from the compact 6ft to the highly impressive 50ft long. The impressive range of layouts is supported by trade stands and railway associations/societies. Rail Ex Taunton has something for the whole family. Brio hands on layout for children and age related trails/quizzes to help keep all the family occupied.

Ample free parking (blue badge spaces).
    Fully accessible level venue.
Fantastic catering in the historic main school restaurant, including Sunday roast.
    First aid cover.

Organising body: N Gauge Society Yorkshire Area Group

The Yorkshire Area Group of the N Gauge Society will be holding its annual open weekend on the 21st and 22nd of October in York.

We will have two large layouts set up. Come and train spot on our scenic DC test track Guys Cutting where you'll see trains showing the wide range of eras and locations of interest to our members. Alternatively, indulge in some shunting on our extensive FreeMo DCC layout. Visitors are welcome to bring models to run on either layout.

In addition to the two group layouts there will also be a number of layouts being exhibited by group members whilst others will be showing their latest modelling projects including a Motorail terminal and projects involving 3D printing and laser cut plastic.

We have a wide range of interests ranging from RTR to kit and scratch building; We have modellers interested in British, Continental, American, Japanese and even Malaysian prototypes dating from the steam era to today's railways.

If you want to learn more about DCC, 3D printing, electrics, signalling, locomotive maintenance, wood work, painting, scenic work or just about anything else model railway related we can usually provide some help and advice.

    • Immingham Model Railway Show
      By SealionSteve,
A great show, as always. Some excellent layouts. Thank you to all concerned.
    • Weston-Super-Mare Model Railway Show 2026
      By ianmianmianm,
Great mix of layouts and trade,

....but the floorplan created real bottlenecks around the entrance which was also the route between halls (via the changing rooms!) and so was already going to be busy anyway. But there were further trade stands and coffee stand put there.... creating groups of people lingering and blocking......       why oh why!

The catering van outside - ended up giving up because as we all stood queuing to buy food, nothing happening in the van, there was a lot of playing with kids and babies but the 4 people there couldn't manage to free up one to take orders.

    • SOUTHAMPTON MODEL RAILWAY SHOW -JANUARY 24TH/25TH 2026
      By Robin Brasher,
Despite South West Trains' best efforts I managed to get to the exhibition on time. I had my doubts when they announced at Southampton Central Station that my train would be running non stop to Waterloo but I got on a Cross Country train that stopped at Southampton Airport. The pictures show:
      1. My arrival at the exhibition on a heritage bus provided by the organisers.
      2. There were a lot of people at the exhibition and a huge queue for the coffee machines. There seemed to be more people there than in previous years.
      3. Essence of Ventnor in 0 gauge was one of the splendid layouts there. I saw it last year at the Brockenhurst exhibition.
      4. Seaton Junction in 00 gauge was another interesting layout. There was an N gauge model of Seaton Junction at Pecorama that it donated to our model railway club so I found it interesting to see Seaton Junction in a larger scale.

I was not so lucky with my return journey as South West Trains was unable to run any trains from Southampton Central to Bournemouth and Weymouth so I ended up having to catch a taxi to Bournemouth.

    • WMRA Annual Exhibition
      By Robin Brasher,
Excellent show. plenty of free parking, over 30 layouts, lots of traders and full catering. I liked the scenery on the illustrated 009 gauge Feorag layout set in an imaginary island west of Cornwall. TT:120 seems to be well received with two small oval layouts on display.
