A celebration of model engineering in Cornwall. See stunning models, expert live demonstrations and get involved with activities for all ages
The Model Engineering Showcase will be an exciting event bringing together members of Cornwall’s varied and diverse modelling community and providing an exclusive spectacle for visitors to the Museum. Come along and see the full spectrum of model engineering, from steam locomotives and model boat building through to the more modern gadgets including aeroplanes and helicopters. There is an action-packed programme planned with exhibits from over 15 clubs and societies who will be present displaying their work. In total nearly 200 models will be on display. There will also be a range of modelling activities on offer for visitors including plastic kit make and take sessions and the popular museum scrapheap challenge. This is a great day out for all the family, one the children will love with all the working models. If you are interested in modelling yourself or want to rekindle your childhood memories, you will find something amongst the many diverse types of modelling on display to admire. If you are not already a modeller hopefully the exhibition will fire your imagination to build something yourself and enjoy one of these satisfying hobbies.

    Clubs and societies attending include:

    City of Truro Mariners
David Fortey with his model of the Aircraft Carrier Ark Royal
Helston and Falmouth Model Railway Club
    Falmouth Society of Railway Modellers
West Cornwall Model Railway Group (N gauge)
    RC Cornwall Flyers
    Redruth District Model Flying Club
    Camborne Pond Hoppers
    Hayle Model Railway Club
    Hayle Model Boat Club
Norman Leighton with his model trains
    Falmouth Model Boat Club
Mick French with his model Ocean Liners
Richard Bowden with his model ships
Perranporth and District Model Engineering Society
    Cornish Scale Modellers/IPMS West Cornwall
    Caen Model Club
There will also be a trade stand and demonstrations from Axminster tools.

"We are delighted that this Model Engineering Showcase is returning to the Maritime Museum in Falmouth and that its scope has widened from boats and ships to new sections on aero engineering and model railways. It presents a golden opportunity for anyone of any age who has the slightest hint of an interest in model engineering to learn what is happening in Cornwall all the year round, put the date in your diary now” said Pat Howard of NMMC Modellers Unit.

The doors are open from 10 am to 5 pm both days and entry to this fantastic event is included with your admission ticket, valid for a year!

    • Immingham Model Railway Show
      By SealionSteve,
A great show, as always. Some excellent layouts. Thank you to all concerned.
    • Weston-Super-Mare Model Railway Show 2026
      By ianmianmianm,
Great mix of layouts and trade,

....but the floorplan created real bottlenecks around the entrance which was also the route between halls (via the changing rooms!) and so was already going to be busy anyway. But there were further trade stands and coffee stand put there.... creating groups of people lingering and blocking......       why oh why!

The catering van outside - ended up giving up because as we all stood queuing to buy food, nothing happening in the van, there was a lot of playing with kids and babies but the 4 people there couldn't manage to free up one to take orders.

An excellent day was had by all. Keep the 30th January 2027 free.
    • SOUTHAMPTON MODEL RAILWAY SHOW -JANUARY 24TH/25TH 2026
      By Robin Brasher,
Despite South West Trains' best efforts I managed to get to the exhibition on time. I had my doubts when they announced at Southampton Central Station that my train would be running non stop to Waterloo but I got on a Cross Country train that stopped at Southampton Airport. The pictures show:
      1. My arrival at the exhibition on a heritage bus provided by the organisers.
      2. There were a lot of people at the exhibition and a huge queue for the coffee machines. There seemed to be more people there than in previous years.
      3. Essence of Ventnor in 0 gauge was one of the splendid layouts there. I saw it last year at the Brockenhurst exhibition.
      4. Seaton Junction in 00 gauge was another interesting layout. There was an N gauge model of Seaton Junction at Pecorama that it donated to our model railway club so I found it interesting to see Seaton Junction in a larger scale.

I was not so lucky with my return journey as South West Trains was unable to run any trains from Southampton Central to Bournemouth and Weymouth so I ended up having to catch a taxi to Bournemouth.

    • WMRA Annual Exhibition
      By Robin Brasher,
Excellent show. plenty of free parking, over 30 layouts, lots of traders and full catering. I liked the scenery on the illustrated 009 gauge Feorag layout set in an imaginary island west of Cornwall. TT:120 seems to be well received with two small oval layouts on display.
