<p>
	I already have a YT Tab open and am "signed in".
</p>

<p>
	Clicking on the "Learn more" is less than useless as it witters on about connection issues and checks.

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Looking at the embedded YT post, I can't see what else to do!
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Does this mean RMweb is losing videos or am I doing something wrong?

	Sometimes when I click it the "busy circle" spins in the dropdown and the contents never appear. Sometimes it works properly. When it's just busy spinning, if I close it and open it again, then it usually works straight away.

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This problem <em>seemed </em>to coincide with the increased frequency of "Verifying you are human" checks (which are getting increasingly annoying). Am I putting two and two together and making five or is the human verification test getting triggered when the site fetches the notifications content?

	<strong>The UK's Online Safety Act will come into effect from 17 March 2025.</strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Online Safety Act 2023 (the Act) is a new set of laws that protects children and adults online. It puts a range of new duties on social media companies and search services, making them more responsible for their users’ safety on their platforms. The Act will give providers new duties to implement systems and processes to reduce risks their services are used for illegal activity, and to take down illegal content when it does appear.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The strongest protections in the Act have been designed for children. Platforms will be required to prevent children from accessing harmful and age-inappropriate content and provide parents and children with clear and accessible ways to report problems online when they do arise.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Act will also protect adult users, ensuring that major platforms will need to be more transparent about which kinds of potentially harmful content they allow, and give people more control over the types of content they want to see.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Who the Act applies to: </strong>
</p>

<p>
	The Act’s duties apply to search services and services that allow users to post content online or to interact with each other. This includes a range of websites, apps and other services, including social media services, consumer file cloud storage and sharing sites, video-sharing platforms, online forums, dating services, and online instant messaging services.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Types of content that the Act tackles:</strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<em>Illegal content</em>
</p>

<p>
	The Act requires all companies to take robust action against illegal content and activity. Platforms will be required to implement measures to reduce the risks their services are used for illegal offending. They will also need to put in place systems for removing illegal content when it does appear. Search services will also have new duties to take steps to reduce the risks users encounter illegal content via their services.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Act sets out a list of priority offences. These reflect the most serious and prevalent illegal content and activity, against which companies must take proactive measures.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Platforms must also remove any other illegal content where there is an individual victim (actual or intended), where it is flagged to them by users, or where they become aware of it through any other means.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The illegal content duties are not just about removing existing illegal content; they are also about stopping it from appearing at all. Platforms need to think about how they design their sites to reduce the likelihood of them being used for criminal activity in the first place.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The kinds of illegal content and activity that platforms need to protect users from are set out in the Act, and this includes content relating to:
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		child sexual abuse
	</li>
	<li>
		controlling or coercive behaviour
	</li>
	<li>
		extreme sexual violence
	</li>
	<li>
		extreme pornography
	</li>
	<li>
		fraud
	</li>
	<li>
		racially or religiously aggravated public order offences
	</li>
	<li>
		inciting violence
	</li>
	<li>
		illegal immigration and people smuggling
	</li>
	<li>
		promoting or facilitating suicide
	</li>
	<li>
		intimate image abuse
	</li>
	<li>
		selling illegal drugs or weapons
	</li>
	<li>
		sexual exploitation
	</li>
	<li>
		terrorism
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Content that is harmful to children </strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Protecting children is at the heart of the Online Safety Act. Although some content is not illegal, it could be harmful or age-inappropriate for children and platforms need to protect children from it.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Companies with websites that are likely to be accessed by children need to take steps to protect children from harmful content and behaviour.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The categories of harmful content that platforms need to protect children from encountering are set out in the Act. Children must be prevented from accessing Primary Priority Content, and should be given age-appropriate access to Priority Content. The types of content which fall into these categories are set out below.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Primary Priority Content*</strong>
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		pornography
	</li>
	<li>
		content that encourages, promotes, or provides instructions for either:
	</li>
	<li>
		self-harm
	</li>
	<li>
		eating disorders or
	</li>
	<li>
		suicide
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Priority Content</strong>
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		bullying
	</li>
	<li>
		abusive or hateful content
	</li>
	<li>
		content which depicts or encourages serious violence or injury
	</li>
	<li>
		content which encourages dangerous stunts and challenges; and
	</li>
	<li>
		content which encourages the ingestion, inhalation or exposure to harmful substances.
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:24px;"><strong>What it means here...</strong></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I support the introduction of the act and its measures to improve online safety. There are already a lot of processes we already have in place through the forum rules and moderation tools that work to foster a safe online environment. We can and do act when we are aware of an issue or it is brought to our attention. We have carried out a risk assessment of what the risks are, the likelihood of occurrence and the potential impacts and listed the measures we have in place to combat them. All we really have to do is reinforce to you as users that we understand the issue, how you can let us know of an issue and that we will do something about it.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:24px;"><strong>What do you need to do?</strong></span>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Largely nothing. You just need to be aware that any post, message or other content that falls within the content listed above* can be reported with a link in the individual post; this alerts us to the report and we will investigate and take appropriate action.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	With regard to the risk of fraud and financial offences I have already placed this red notice in the Wanted subforum.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Whilst it seems some social media sites seem to be adopting a more <em>laissez-faire</em> approach to content control or are even ignorant to the implications of this Act we do and will continue to take any such issues very seriously.

	I like DuckDuckGo as a browser, but for the past few days it is refusing to load RMWeb with the following message:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Bad Request</strong>
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.<br />
	Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.</strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I have no idea what this means, or whether it is something rolled out to prevent users from access via DuckDuckGo
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	In any case, I swapped back over to Safari which was okay for a few days but after an update to the iOS last night, whenever I try to “Quote” a post, editing options appear right over the Quote button meaning I am struggling to use it!
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Are RMWeb aware of this issue (or is it just me?)
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Regards
</p>

<p>
	It’s the weekend and nobody died so no need for anyone to call out the Emergency IT Team out of hours!

	I got an email notification of a topic that I thought might be interesting, so I clicked on it. But then when I arrived at the forum, instead of seeing anything, I saw an error:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	[[Template core/front/global/globalTemplate is throwing an error. This theme may be out of date. Run the support tool in the AdminCP to restore the default theme.]]
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="2330623" data-ratio="5.74" width="1098" alt="template-error.png.46ac29d6494d36560d7f8a170f5c9604.png" data-src="//media-eu.invisioncic.com/y320084/monthly_2026_01/template-error.png.46ac29d6494d36560d7f8a170f5c9604.png" src="https://www.rmweb.co.uk/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	I'm not seeing that error when I follow any other links from my email notifications, so I presume the topic I went to had been deleted, moved or hidden before I viewed it.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I can, though, recreate the error by just making up an invalid topic URL. So what I suspect has happened is that the "404" template has a problem. If you go to a non-existent topic URL it should say "Sorry, that topic doesn't exist", or something like that, or even just display a traditional 404 error page, rather than exposing an internal error.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	It's not a huge problem, because most people will never see it unless, like me, they click on an external link to a missing topic. But it probably ought to be fixed nonetheless.
</p>

	RMweb is very slow to respond to the initial page request for me today.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Other web sites are instant so my connection is not the problem.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	On pages with lots of images, after the long wait, the images all load quickly as I scroll through the page.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So there's something slowing down the initial page request. This seems to be the case for all initial responses, including submitting this new topic and editing this post.

<p>
	Hi Phil,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I'm currently a moderator of a couple of forum areas, I think it's an S&amp;DJR one, and a Terrier one. As I am no longer active on RMweb and it's likely I'll be 'leaving the hobby' at some point in the future, can you remove me as moderator of any and all forums?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Cheers
</p>

<p>

</p>
