RMweb Gold Scottish Modeller Posted June 23, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2015 Hi all, Anyone have any information about the latest date that Class 26's were running about still fitted with Headcode Discs? Trying to work out whether I need to do a full facelift to a Heljan body or if I can get away with a disc one. Thanks
Colin Stewart
Phil, Not sure if this will help, whilst an S&T trainee in 1984/5 we were based at the apprentice training centre at St Rollox and I remember seeing class 26's entering the works for refurbishment, during that time they lost their headcode discs. Rivercider
Looking on Flickr they seemed to be already gradually losing them at the start of the 1980s. Some locos lost the outer two discs first. The latest photo I can find so far of a 26 with a full set is 26040 in April 1985 https://www.flickr.com/photos/mrc31176/5025593350/in/photolist-8E6tPd-cHSU83-d3eksq-9gkbPA-ortkYz-eePh6Y-55jJix-uKyNe6-9Gsy6s-aKtaSa-bCcSr4-9tpYxX-pqELQG-scVb23-rwrp4F-s2Nkj7-dwjZDL-skJetc-oyvT3R-ah3inA-oh1V4d-dgJigu-fqwrX9-9vcCv4-aWXr3R-8KeZs2-9kiBU3-99orrQ-p2PWy6-oPuAMm-eejT4z-rg1fJY-pzsZhx-7xmajK-boBWkp-oAr5Nx-f6SwDH-7xtVNL-8DAA7b-ah3fKA-8uSv1L-gtiVPm-sQffw3-83ix8g-7Ern9U-boWucB-pQR3LF-eenkZC-7yz2QX-amYgz2 cheers
RMweb Gold Scottish Modeller Posted June 25, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 25, 2015 Hi Guys, Thanks for the comments - much appreciated. I had a good idea that it was mid 80's and/pr as the refurbishment program went on. I'm now particularly looking at Class 26's that were Central/East of Scotland regulars. Thornton Yard to Millerhill (and vice versa) workings are of real interest as are workings from Bilston Pit to whatever destination - Leith Docks and Cockenzie Power Station mainly but also Blindwells to Cockenzie Power Station. Plenty to get the teeth into Thanks
Rail-Online
26034 still had a full set in 1983, 26036 had lost its outer ones at the same time. I did record one at HA in the summer of 1984 but did not record the number! http://www.rail-online.co.uk/p488499296/h48caee7#h48caee7 Tony
RMweb Gold Scottish Modeller Posted June 26, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 26, 2015 Hi Tony, I have these 2 down as possibles as they were seen on Cockenzie coal or East Coast engineers trains at Preston Pans. I didn't record which was on what duty - just the numbers with a comment - Discs! The Zenfolio link takes me to a log in page - not the photo itself? Thanks
