lapford34102
Wasn't this old news? Heard and read about this over a month ago The move's been known about for a long time, it's the new location that we now know. Stu
Ozexpatriate
Hmmm, not really sure what to think about new location. They might get more casual visitors down at the harbour, though parking could be a problem. So here I take it? Looks like a nice location. I like the design. Much better than a dingy old 1950s asbestos ridden factory in the hinterland I'd think. It should be a draw for the town and will pull in more casual visitors. Was there a mention anywhere of when it will open in Ramsgate?
lapford34102
Yes, exactly where it's going and thanks for the link. On the left is the old Casino part of which is due to become a Weatherspoon's. So many eating places in that area wonder if it's worth them keeping a café section. The white building in the pic is the slip winch house which is staying. Agree with Brian that parking could be an issue. Little on road but there's some on the Harbour cross arm - wrong gear and splash! - and a couple of large carparks 500m along the prom. No clues as to when but then they got to build the place. Stu
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted July 4, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 4, 2015 Actually in railway history term it's rather a clever site as it is, almost literally, just across the road from the old SER Ramsgate terminus - just a shame that closed in 1926 and it will be quite a walk from the present station. But commercially it looks like an excellent site and is a pretty bold move on Hornby's part. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramsgate_Harbour_railway_station#/media/File:Ramsgate_Harbour_railway_station.jpg
RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted July 4, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 4, 2015 I think this is a great move. This makes the visitor centre a proper tourist attraction in a way that having it as part of a tatty old industrial site whose glory days had clearly passed decades ago it could never be. And it'll be good for Ramsgate, it could be a genuinely symbiotic relationship in which both Ramsgate and Hornby win, which can only be good.

Getting the bus back up the hill was a much better idea! John
