Southwold 2015

Yep, our very last outing with our beloved Thurston after 15 years exhibiting it all over the UK.  Last chance for anyone to buy a Thurston DVD as a souvenir too! (Only £5 and all money goes to the Club).

Surprised there is not more discussion about this show as it's always a great show.  Southwold here we come!

Southwold probably the premier exhibition in Norfolk and Suffolk. But we're a long way from anywhere else so suppose people less inclined to visit - you can't go much further East! Seriously though it's 100 miles from Norwich to London, Milton Keynes and Newark only then do you start to get anywhere (no offence to places in between but you now what I mean).

It's always a good show.

Yes great show. Our treasurer has a second home in Reydon so we have a standing invitation for a layout every year because we only charge transport costs. This year Lee-on-the-Solent is going.

Went to the show today.

Agree with the above comments, great layouts and a wide range of trade stands. Being able to sit outside in the marquee having a drink and watch the gauge 1 live steam is  a bonus.

As noted previously, it is a bit out of the way, a good two hour drive from Cambridge, longer as the A1120 was closed and I got stuck behind a large farm vehicle for several miles.

There appeared more families than some other shows, so perhaps getting a few holiday makers in. What they make of some of the specialist trade stalls is anyone's guess.

As usual I went on the Saturday, I found it to be quieter than usual and a stall holder who I know agreed. Didn't even have to queue for a cuppa.

The car park was packed but there was also a craft fair and air ambulance on site so some folk probably went there. Didn't seem to be so many

society stalls so fewer boxes of second hand books to search through. In fact I bought nothing at all! Perhaps Sunday was busier.

Excellent show guide, full colour glossy paper included in admission (£7) but is it necessary really? How many get thrown away within hours?

With apologies to earlier contributors on this thread highlight layouts for me were: The Great Train Robbery, Lee on the Solent (P4),

Borchester Market (40 yrs old) and Tintagel Road (30 yrs old.) Although there were a few running 'issues' with the last mentioned while I watched

it didn't matter. I wasn't sure but some of the layouts on show didn't seem to me to be finished.

Enjoyable as always.

May I offer my most grateful thanks to all the members of the Waveney Valley Club (and its associates and helpers) for putting on such a superb show over the weekend at Southwold? There was a grand mix of layouts, demonstrators, traders, societies, etc. Definitely one not to miss.

My highlight? Other than probably distracting the splendid operators on Borchester (my apologies chaps, but thanks for running one or two of my locos), it was watching the live steam Pickersgill 4-6-0 romp round the Gauge 1 test track. One of the finest locos I've ever seen!
