3D printed level cross kit

Recommended Posts

I think one of the items requested for model railways has been a working level crossing in OO. When I designed my wagon turntables for 3D printing I did wonder if a working level crossing could be done. My initial attempt using similar mechanism to the wagon turntable resulted in something not very good and far too expensive, so I put it on the shelf.
Came back to it a couple of days ago, to have another go. Again I struggled, but then thought that by using piano wire I could connect the gate mechanisms(?) easier. The design looks OK, but have not tried it yet.

and then I thought , why not a tram crossing the railway.

The mechanism wheels need to be separated and clipped in place, with wires attached. The gates should then just fit in place. Might need some fine tuning.
If the tram version works then I am thinking of a small layout to use all those buildings I have got in the model railway village magazine

Thinking about a stone sett version, but not sure if they would be allowed on some railways.
