RMweb Premium M.I.B Posted August 11, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 11, 2015 When batches of engines were built during the "black livery" phase (42-45) were they out-shopped in unlined green or black? It would seem odd to send out a new Hall in Green when something else had come in for a much needed repaint and come out black.
RMweb Premium M.I.B Posted August 12, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 12, 2015 I think I can now answer my own post, thanks to a reply to a similar issue. Mike Coachman posted and interesting link to a photo of 6944. The photo shows a yet to be named 6944, in black with no cab side window and no name plates. So this dates it as being 1942 - 1947 on the name alone. But the tender is a lined Hawksworth livery unit, so this puts the date frame around 1946 ish to 1947. Hall 6944 must have been built in black. I beleive this to be so as it was uniikely to have been outshopped in green in 42 and then had a full repaint into black so quickly.
