RMweb Gold tractionman Posted September 1, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 1, 2015 Hi folks, I recently visited the 15” gauge railway that runs through Oakfield Park in County Donegal in Ireland - http://www.oakfieldpark.com/?page_id=1609 It’s a lovely little line, with stock based on County Donegal Railway coaches, hauled either by an 0-4-2T steam loco, named ‘Duchess of Difflin’, or an 0-4-0 diesel loco, ‘Earl of Oakfield’. The latter was in service the day we visited – the steam loco operates on the last Sunday in the month, during the summer. The parkland is negotiated by the line as it skirts lakes, runs through woodlands and alongside paths and herbaceous borders – a reminder perhaps of Sir Arthur Heywood’s Duffield line in Derbyshire. A few photos below give a flavour of the line and its surroundings – well worth a visit. Cheers, Keith The engine shed viewed from the station. ‘Duchess of Difflin’ in the shed. The line running along paths and borders. And through meadows and woods.
