Old N Gauge trains that won't move

Hi

I have just pull out my old N gauge trains that have been boxed up on the loft for about 5 - 10 years and are about 25 years old.

I have an old Graham Farish controller which I wired up to some new track in anticipation that the trains would run but they all just buzz with the odd wheel turn here and there, they are clean and rust free, what should I do to get them running again?

We are looking to build a new set so keen to get them sorted, I have about 10 locos

That's not the best idea. Model railway mechanisms typically respond best to minimal lubrication, only where and when required.

Start from one you knew to be a good reliable runner, clean out any hardened/thickened lubricant residue (also any fibres or dirt if present) and use a light plastics compatible oil applied in minute quantity from the tip of a needle, and assess the running after a few minutes movement back and forward to get the lubricant well dispersed.
