Hi Guys,

It's a bit late, but here's my report on Hythe at Ris-ex 2010!

As at Newbury, the layout performed very very well, Although this was only from about 11 o'clock onwards! It was at about this time when the point into Platform 2 (the longest and main platform), which we have always had to 'wiggle' to get it working if's been left a while, finally packed up all together and locked solid. So one pleed to Hythe's chief mechanical engineerer (aka dad!), and he was under the layout trying to sort it! We got it working by taking the micro switch for the signal off, so very departure after that had to "Pass the signal at danger and obey all over signals!"

Luckily for us we had an extra operator for the day, meaning we could all have a walk around! Plus the Class 395 was loaned to us for the day again (it will also be running at Churchrail, thanks Paul!). We also had a steam service running, a first for an exhibition, this worked well, expect for the couplings (More on that later...). I've put the images into my gallery here:

There's also a video of Risex by Matt Wickes (Bluebell Model Railway on here):

At the exhibition, we discovered that freight wize, the layout has boring to operate, so during the drive to Watford Finescale the following day (to say hi to our mates operating Hinton Parva), we decided to rebuild the town scene board. This will include making it a 4ft x 2ft board and making the workshop into a freight warehouse with a covered road and a small container road. We've decided to keep Hythe as it is, but build the new board upto the point where it just needs buildings to finish it. If we do the Reading show in september, we'll do it with Hythe as it is, then whip the buildings off and put them on the new board. We are going to hopefully talk to the Abingdon show mananger and ask him for another 2ft.

Plus, we have decided on standardising couplings. We will have D&G couplings with electromagnets. This was decided after a successfull trial on Bigporth and will hopefully be ready in time for Church Rail

Comments Welcome!

Simon
