Edwardian
I wondered if anyone here might hazard a guess as to the make and class of these locomotives:
2mm Andy
Those look like two different locos (buffers, cab roof, safety valve 'bonnet', chimney style, etc. being different) Gervase was a Manning Wardle (and is still around, having been converted by Sentinel to a geared vertical boiler loco in the 1920s). http://www.gcrailway.co.uk/the-railway/locomotives/gervase/ Andy
Adam
Gervase is straightforward: it was built by Manning, Wardle of Leeds and rebuilt by Sentinel with a vertical boiler. It is now preserved in this form. Adam Edit: I see my post crossed with Andy's! http://www.elsecarrailway.co.uk/index.php/about-us/our-engines/gervase
peter220950
It's a Manning Wardle, http://www.elsecarrailway.co.uk/index.php/about-us/our-engines/gervase There's also a bit more about it halfway down the page here http://www.oldreigate.com/?goto=mersthamquarry Peter Edit ditto, I was too slow off the mark! Edwardian
Thanks all. Note the comment that the second picture is mis-captioned as Petros, because it is Gervase, whereas the picture shows a loco very similar to Petros, which is pictured in 1940. Edwardian
'Petros', Hunslet 629 of 1895?
garethashenden
'Petros', Hunslet 629 of 1895? It could be, but it looks Manning Wardle ish.
2mm Andy
It could be, but it looks Manning Wardle ish. Early Hunslet locos did look similar to Manning Wardle locos. Probably the closest surviving loco is 'Vigilant', Hunslet 287; http://www.rocks-by-rail.org/exhibit/vigilant/ Andy
rope runner
Definitely a hunslet. As you say, the same class as Vigilant Paul A.
