CSB with Slaters insulated hornblocks? (7mm scale)

Recommended Posts

I'm considering going down the path of CSB with a kit locomotive that I am working on. It is a fairly typical 0-6-0 side tank locomotive. It has equally-spaced axles at 13'9" wheelbase (unusual dimension, but it is an Australian prototype!)

I would like to know if anyone else has adapted slaters hornblocks for CSB and if they could offer any advice. At the moment, my thought is to install the blocks inside-out so that the turned flange can act as the weight-bearing surface against the springy beam and to use hand-rail knobs soldered inside the chassis side frames. I would then use some suitable 3/16" brass washers to keep the slaters wheelsets spaced away from the frames - the ones on the centre axle will be slightly thinner to allow some lateral movement and make sure that the chassis remains flexible around curves.

I torture test my rolling stock down as far as possible - often to 36" radius to ensure that they will always be able to run on any layout!

Any advice is most welcomed. Thanks in advance!
