M Graff
Hi all! I just finished this Russian Aerosan diorama for a magazine: The scale is 1:35. It was fun to build something different. []
M Graff
Wohoo! The editor liked it! The proceeds will partly go to a new Blackstone HOn3 locomotive I have oogled at. :-)
34theletterbetweenB&D
I like the 'do not walk into the propellor arc' protection for the vehicle occupants. That was a detail Hornby left off their Battlespace turbocar...
KalKat
How did they steer them? I can see no kingpin on them - nor a rudder. Did the engine/propeller pivot?
34theletterbetweenB&D
How did they steer them?... Oh, that was a simple matter of invincible proletarian class consciousness correctly directed by the unflagging wisdom of Comrade Stal... I suspect the small one was 'steered' by traditional 'leaning'. Or getting out and pulling it around to point in the desired direction when in a hurry. The two larger specimens have those rods from the ski outriggers to central cranks, which possibly 'bent' the outriggers to steer. Rather like wingwarping on early aircraft. M Graff
How did they steer them? I can see no kingpin on them - nor a rudder. Did the engine/propeller pivot? The small one has regular rack steering. The other two uses the crank and struts to steer by pulling the inward skis together and as the struts are mounted opposite on the other side the outer skis are pulled apart. Mad McCann
Typical Soviet ingenuity, really! Rugged simplicity and doubtless effective too. :-)
KalKat
Ah ha .......... thank you. They are curious vehicles (beautifully modelled if I may say) and I think have echoes in the ekraplans(?) to come later
