Chameleon
Anyone know the colour code for standard DR wagons brown, and who makes it? I have a bunch of OBB narrow gauge wagons I want to paint into DR colour. It seems a bit lighter than the standard German RAL8012 red brown. Something like this:
FelixM
DR has used RAL 8012 for goods wagons as well https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAL-Eisenbahnfarben#Farben_der_Deutschen_Reichsbahn_.28nach_1945.
Chameleon
RAL8012 always looks way too dark for that shade of brown. More like the dark brown you get on standard gauge wagons.
Taigatrommel
I'd be cautious about using that preserved wagon as a colour reference - it may not be painted in the right colour itself! Additionally the paint colours and qualities varied hugely. Locos, all supposedly RAL 3004, could vary in shade widely.
Bernard Lamb
I am only going by the colour I can see on my screen. Checking against my RAL chart I can see nothing that is a near match. One step either way is far too big a difference. It looks nearer to RAL3031 than any thing. As Taigatrommel mentions it could well be a non official paint colour. FelixM
I just double checked it and DR narrow gauge wagons were really painted RAL 8012.
Chameleon
OK, cool. Thanks very much for the input. I'll repaint my Austrian wagons in 8012.
