Simond
Hi It took a while but I found out... I have found " the rule" - from Jim Russell's book, "A pictorial record of Great Western Coaches, 1903-1948", page 115, where it states "It has been mentioned that some vehicles were made with right hand vans, and some with left hand. The method of determining this feature is judged by the location of the van end, when viewing the coach from the corridor side." Best Simon
Adrian Wintle
There are also left- and right-handed compos, based on the end with the first-class compartments as viewed from the corridor side. Early Collett coaches also had left- and right-handed variants. The last handed coaches built were the Centenary brake thirds. Adrian
