souwest
Hi all, A question - how many locomotives had "Glasgow" in their names from say 1900 until the present day? One to while away the hours digesting Easter eggs! Souwest
dvdlcs
One of the Class 87 electrics was named "City of Glasgow". Might have been 006 from memory. Presumably there was an LMS pacific named the same previously?

souwest
46121 Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment) Thank you all for exercising the wee grey cells. I had not realised that there were so many diesel and electrics featuring Glasgow in their names. The only other one I could think of was the L&NWR Experiment class named City of Glasgow. RMweb Premium keefer Posted April 6, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 6, 2016 Was surprised to find there wasn't a 'University of Glasgow'. In the modern era, according to railway-centre.com the name was allocated for an HST in 12/83 but the plates weren't cast.
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted April 6, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 6, 2016 46121 Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment) That must be a candidate for the nameplate with the most letters.

dvdlcs
Always assumed one of the Peaks (Class 44, 45, or 46) would have that record. Some of their regimental nameplates were rather wordy. I'm pretty sure it's 60835, as her name had 59 letters: "THE GREEN HOWARD, ALEXANDRA, PRINCESS OF WALES'S OWN YORKSHIRE REGIMENT".
