WILLIAM
Bit of an odd ball question but somebody may be able to help. Rodger Bradley's book 'GEC Traction' contains a list of English Electric works numbers and corresponding builders numbers. Whilst the EE numbers are consecutive I've noticed some gaps in the Vulcan Foundry numbers despite the locos having been built, e.g. VF D1197 which is a preserved 0-6-0DH industrial shunter. Does anyone know why some of the VF locos appear not to have had EE works numbers allocated despite being built at the same time as others that do? EddieB
The Vulcan Foundry "D" list is almost continuous (there are some gaps and apparently some locos built that had no works number, e.g. BR nos. D8302 and D8304). Most of the gaps arise from locomotives built with hydraulic transmission, as in the example of VF D1197, where there was no contribution required from English Electric. WILLIAM
Many thanks Eddie. That makes sense although it looks like they changed their policy from 1968/69 as many VF diesel hydraulic shunters have EE works numbers after that.Is there a published complete list of the VF D (& E) numbers?
