richardcdl
I recently took my P2 out of store and tried running it. Nothing even after several attempts. The motor works when the decoder is removed and power applied directly. The decode with sound is installed in another loco works as it should. Reinstalled the decoder into the P2 again zip. There are no obvious wiring breaks and as far as I can check there is electrical continuity. What is going on? Any help would be much appreciated Richardcdl

shibushe
Try doing a reset to default 3. This can cure a number of funny goings on.
Phil S
Check for shorts beneath the socket when the plug of the sound decoder is inserted - it can be a good idea to slide some insulating plastic beneath, as on some models, the pins can come through and touch metalwork. Your description does not say that you tried another decoder in the P2 ..... so the most obvious failing possibility is in the track pickup to NEM socket area. (You stated the motor worked when connected 'directly' ... if that meant the motor terminals themselves, then the connection back to the NEM socket is not proven either.
