Gateside and Northbridge

Hello everyone, I haven't posted anything since we went over to the new format, but that doesn't mean that I have been idle. I decided to push on with the new Gateside terminus, and a post by someone on here (err me) on the "stations that should have been modelled by now" suggesting Glasgow Buchanan Street started me thinking. I don't have enough room to do the original in full, but I could do a station based on the original, four platforms instead of five, no Dobbies Loan overbridge, but the distinctive station building and starting signals.

 

So far I have laid all the track and just finished ballasting today, some low relief buildings have been put in place, including the block of flats free in last months Hornby Magazine. Some typical Glasgow road scenes were available on the web, these were blended in.

First dry run of the main card sections of the station building tried out tonight. Went together reasonably well and although the accuracy is not possible, I feel that the character of Buchanan Street is there. Many nights work to go, but this is possibly the most satisfying bit of modelling I have ever carried out, hopefully the enthusiasm will carry me on to the finished article!!

 

For comparison with the real thing, the main research was done on the RCAHMS site, a wonderful online resource.

Nice one Jim, and good to see the layout back on forum. Buchanan St really seems to have been the poor relation of the city's main termini - I think that may be the first I've seen of the interior.

Latest updates to the Buchanan Street Station Building, it will look more recognisable once the canopy is in place at the front, still some work to go....
