johnarcher
Does anyone know if drawings of any Dean period brake(sorry, van) coaches (eg D15/16, or even brake compo), ever appeared in any of the modelling mags? I daresay they are in Russell but I'll probably only ever want the one drawing, and a magazine back number would be a lot cheaper.
K14
No idea if any have appeared in the mags, but you're correct in your Russell assumption — the D.15 is in Vol. 1, p.74, Dia. 55. Weight drawing only & no accompanying photo. The NRM have three drawings in the OPC LIst that match:— 1241 — Microfilm aperture card. 8 wheel 38'6" Brake 3rd Low roof Lot 730 Dia.D15 1894. Railway Microfilms Collection (formerly OPC). OPC List GWR01.15434 — Microfilm aperture card. Diagram of 8 wheel 38'6'' Non-corr bke 3rd Low roof L730 D15 1895. Railway Microfilms Collection (formerly OPC). OPC List GWR10. From the official G.W.R Carriage Diagram Books.15435 — Microfilm aperture card. Diagram of 8 wheel 48'6'' Non-corr bke 3rd Low roof L751 D16 1895. Railway Microfilms Collection (formerly OPC). OPC List GWR10. From the official G.W.R Carriage Diagram Books. I'd assume that Card 1241 is a weight drawing as it's not marked up "G.A." Last year's rate for microfilm orders was £7.50/scan for a digital copy. Pete S. johnarcher
Thank you, I'll look at the D16 especially. Another thought, anyone know of a D27 drawing, which could be used possibly to help convert the Roxey A2/3 Clifton Downs trailer back to original form? K14
1257 — Microfilm aperture card. 8 wheel Brke 3rd Low roof non-corr Lot 872 Dia.D27 1898. OPC List GWR01 1252 — Microfilm aperture card. Alteration to ends of Bke 3rds for Clifton Down Autos 1913. OPC List GWR01 6357 — Microfilm aperture card. 8 wheel Trailer Car Bke 3rd Clifton Down set Lot 872 Nos.3335-3340 1913. OPC List GWR01 6358 — Microfilm aperture card. 8 wheel Trailer Car Bke 3rd Clifton Down Nos.3331-2 1913. OPC List GWR01 15446 — Microfilm aperture card. Diagram of 8 wheel 51' Non-corr Bke 3rd Low roof L872 D27 1898. OPC List GWR10 (Weight Drawing) Again, apart from the last one, no indication if they're G.A's or weight diagrams. WRT the D15, Raymond Walley built the Mallard one in 7mm:— http://www.raymondwalley.com/carriages/gwr/d15.html#.V1xYpxJ0Pfg Beautiful, but not sure I agree with the double Garters. P. RMweb Premium NCB Posted June 11, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 11, 2016 Trefor Jones did an O scale drawing for the D15. Not sure where it was published but most of his appeared in MRC. Had a look in Lelux but couldn't see an obvious reference to it. The WRRC is now the custodian of his drawings. I built the Mallard/Blacksmith kit in 3mm/ft, seen below partly complete:
Adrian Wintle
Here is an index of coach drawings in magazines from the British Railway Modellers of North America website. It doesn't necessarily show the diagrams because it uses whatever the magazine called it and they frequently didn't mention the diagram. It is not comprehensive, but may be useful. http://brmna.org/xref/cochgwr.htm Adrian
