i have been thinking about getting one of the sfx10 sound modules for a while and whilst at perth i picked one up. it was promptly tested and works a treat but.....

i plan on putting the capsule into my kit built nbr c16 atlantic tank and the loco is a pain to dismantle.

i am wondering if it would be possible to make ''it'' so that the sound capsule was powered from the pickups. i trained in mechanical engineering so electrics are not really my thing.

the steam sound module is powered by a 3v battery and cannot be powered by anything bigger. would it be possible to use some sort of resistor between the pick-ups and the sound capsule??

You need to determine how much current the module takes before selecting a suitable circuit for voltage regulation.

If it turns out to be 1A or less, you could use one of these regulators (from RS in this case):

There are higher current versions too:

You could modify a stock wagon /box van to contain the module to tow behind the tank loco.

Fitting pickups would be a doddle using ESUs ready made wheel scrapers or even DCC Concepts axle springs or make your own.

The regulator quoted above would knock down track voltage to a suitable safe value.
