The Border Reiver
50 years ago today, while most people were watching England win the World cup, Britannia Pacific 70017 Arrow hauling empty stock ran into the back of a goods train on the Carlisle goods lines at St Nicholas. It was hauling a train of empty passenger stock under Permissive Block regulations. It was withdrawn after the accident, the first Britannia to be condemmed. This photo was taken on the following day at Upperby shed, Sunday 31 July 1966. D854_Tiger
Fifty years ago today I imagine would also have been quite a good day for football specials. Though by 1966 I doubt many Britannias were reaching London.
Pobrien
70017 in happier times https://www.flickr.com/photos/bristolsteam/5459078122/in/photolist-9jpcJA-ce73mA I think 70007 was the first Britannia to be withdrawn in mid-1965. It was the only one I missed.
