RMweb Premium DLT Posted September 26, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 26, 2016 The Lynton & Barnstaple railway's Autumn 2016 Gala, was this last Saturday and Sunday. On a weekend of sunshine and showers, the replica L&B loco "Lyd" was visiting from the Festiniog, and trains consist of now FOUR restored heritage carriages. (four was the original limit for a single loco) Locomotives Lyd and Isaac were hauling trains in turn, but on Sunday morning a heavy rain shower caused problems when the 4-4-0 Charles Wytock struggled to get up the bank with a rather heavy demonstration ballast train, which included two newly arrived South African bogie wagons. Constantly slipping to a standstill, at one point the whole train was sliding backwards. So the demonstration train also included a "demonstration" of hand sanding of the rails, and a "demonstration" of double-heading when Axe was sent to help out. The ensemble eventually made it back into the station, with CW's wheels still spinning at regular intervals. The assembled photographers and video film-ers certainly got their moneys-worth. The wise and cautious decision was made to top-&-tail the passenger train for a while, with Isaac at the lower end and Lyd at the top. After all that excitement, the weather cleared up and things calmed down a bit. A very entertaining day, more photos on my Photobucket: http://s814.photobucket.com/user/dltaylor_bucket/library/LB%20Autumn%20Gala%202016?sort=3&page=1 Cheers, Dave. Zomboid
It was very foggy and atmospheric the time I went. Has a certain desolate charm, but it looks nicer in the sun...
