Earl Bathurst
Afternoon Having been modelling German Railways for over a year now, and having to sell the layout I bought as I am moving away soon. I am looking for a project that can be something which can travel but not take up too much room in the future as I am not sure as to space at the moment. I am not very good when it comes to track plans or ideas but was wondering can anyone here help with this matter? I collect all types of German locomotives from steam, diesel and electric so it doesn't have to be limited to a era or period. Any help would be most useful Scott
Allegheny1600
Hello Scott, You should be able to find some inspiration here: http://www.stummiforum.de/viewtopic.php?f=154&t=117269 In German but "Google translate" seems to do a good enough job for me. Hope That Helps, John.
Fluo66
You can also look at http://www.scarm.info/layouts/track_plans.php where you can select scale and size. There are a lot of continental track plans. Another source: http://www.moba-trickkiste.de/wie-macht-man-planen/datenbank-gleisplaene.html Here you can search for scale ("Maßstab") and size ("Größe") in square metres (qm). Click on button "Suchen" to start search.
wollastonblue
It it's just locos how about a Roundhouse or TMD? Lot's of fun kits from Faller, Kibri or Vollmer to choose from. I would work out how much space you have to play with and then play with something like Anyrail.
Earl Bathurst
Thanks guys. Never had much luck with Anyrail. I like the idea of a Roundhouse. Scott
wollastonblue
Have a look at this facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/eisenbahnfreundeschwarzenbekev/?fref=ts Although done in N gauge they have an unbelievable engine shed on this layout. Fluo66
Hello Scott, Do you have an idea how much space you will have for the layout? Which scale are you modelling. Do you like a more prototypical plan or a layout just for fun? Mainline or branchline? End to end, roundy-roundy or diorama? Do you want to run also trains or just shunting with locos and a few wagons? Many questions, I know. But the answers may help us to help you. I quiet like the idea of a roundhouse with the Vollmer 6 road loco shed with facilities. It is something which needs to be small enough to transport when I move away later this year. Ideally I would like to build something which can be built now but be incorporated into a continuous layout in the future. I do like long freight trains and passenger trains. Fluo66
How about something like this? The layout size is 200 x 85 cm. I think if you want to model a roundhouse with a turntable you will need at least such space. The only issue is that the diesel shed is only accessible via the turntable. I like that layout idea, it actually ticks all the boxes I'm looking for. Diesel shed which kits are best? Scott
wollastonblue
Vollmer do this one: http://www.vollmer-online.de/en/articles/art_info.php?model=45765 with working doors. Kibri do this one: http://www.viessmann-modell.com/kibri/index.php?show=shop&cPath=32&lang=de&cat=c165_Bahn%20H0.html I really like this Faller kit: http://www.faller.de/App/WebObjects/XSeMIPS.woa/cms/page/pid.14.17.89/agid.1127.1200.1227/atid.93/ecm.at/Electric-engine-shed-three-tracks.html I know the Faller and Vollmer are 3 track there is room in the plan to put another siding in, but they do also have operating doors. I would also look at maybe a fuelling point as well. Which track system are you planning on using?
Earl Bathurst
The Faller link doesn't seem to be working. I like the look of the Vollmer kit. What do you mean track system, do you mean track company? e.g.peco Scott
