drgj
What would be the number range for midland region mk2 vacuum braked coaches with the M prefix introduced in 1964? Also I would like to know the same for the later Mk2a coaches. Thanks Dave

Flood
Like muddy water says it all depends on the year/s you are modelling. I've got complete coverage for regional allocations from 1969 to 1989 and I doubt they would have changed much for Mk2 stock in the first five years. Just give me some dates and I'll find the information.
drgj
Thanks to Muddy Waters and Flood. I was thinking from the time the coaches were introduced. I think the mk2 was 1964 and '68 for the mk2a. Does anyone make vacuum cylinders. etc, for the mk2?
Flood
The original allocations for the Mk2 vacuum braked stock were as follows: FK: E13361-78, M13379-86, S13387-13406, M13410-31, W13432/3 TSO: M5070-5202, W5203-28 SO (48 seats): M5229-56 BFK: M14028-55 BSO: M9381-9416 The first changes in allocation occurred in June 1971 with BSO, TSO and FK stock moving to the Scottish Region for the Glasgow - Edinburgh push-pull services. From 1973 the Western Region FKs and TSOs were all reallocated to the Eastern Region though in 1974/5 some London Midland TSOs and all the London Midland BFKs and BSOs were moved to the Western and Eastern for cross country services. Again, some of these in turn moved to Scotland from 1976/7 for use on the Edinburgh/Glasgow to Inverness/Aberdeen services. The original allocations for the Mk2a air braked stock were as follows: FK: E13434-43, W13444-63, E13464-75 TSO: E5257-5300, W5301-45, E5346-5433 BFK: E14056-67, W14068-77, E14078-14103 BSO: E9417-33, W9434-8 From October 1971 large numbers of TSOs and the first batches of FKs and BFKs moved from the Eastern to the Western as the Mk2D stock was introduced. This also allowed the introduction of air braked stock on the West of England services. Some of this ex Eastern Region stock, along with virtually all the Western Region FK stock and large numbers of BSOs, subsequently moved to the London Midland in 1974 as Mk2E/F stock was introduced. These coaches again moved as the Mk3A stock came on stream in 1976 allowing air braked stock on cross country services and others such as Paddington to Birmingham or Worcester and those from Liverpool Street to Norwich. With the introduction of the HSTs even more stock movements occurred but hopefully I have given everyone a rough idea of what happened in the first ten years of this stock. muddy water
Flood! What you do not know about carriages is not worth knowing! May the modelling community be richer with your postings! I might have to dig out the numbering transfers for my stock!
