RailwaysInMyDNA
Hi all, I've found plenty of advice on fitting decoders, but nothing on removing them. I'm currently wanting to swop a sound fitted peak over to another peak that has a decoder fitted. What I'd like to ask is can anyone recommend which tools and techniques to use in lifting decoders in a way that doesn't damage them. No doubt some of you will have developed your own methods, but I notice on the peak that there is nothing to lever against to lift them.
RailwaysInMyDNA
Ok, I've managed to come up with a solution to my question. I laid a screwdriver along the cast metal edge parallel to decoder and used that to lever against and carefully teased the decoder up until it was free enough to detach with fingers. Like everything else, it's a learning process. Just a bit nerve racking when handling expensive sound chips!
shibushe
I find it useful to have to hand those coffee stirrers you get in coffee shops etc. They wont miss a handful. Waitrose are best, nice and short. I use these to prise up a decoder saves damage. These have many uses in the modelling world, stirring paint is one.
