Guest nzflyer
Hi all, I like Oxford's Ploughman engines but they are a bit on the larger side of steam-powered agricultural machinery, no doubt because of their purpose as powerful farming machines destined to ply the meadows and fields of Britain and the Empire. I like the slightly smaller engines that I see at regular vintage machinery events, manufactured by the likes of Fowler, Garret and others. Are there any other smaller traction engines available? I'm aware that Scalelink and a few others do kits.
fodenway
The original Matchbox Models of Yesteryear Allchin engine from the late 1950's is to 4mm scale, and is an excellent little model. It has been copied by several whitemetal kit makers over the years. W&T also do some nice engines, and the older ERTL Thomas the Tank Engine "Trevor" makes into a nice little lightweight engine with a bit of work. The old Keilkraft Aveling road roller can also be converted to a traction engine, using wheels from Langley or some other source.
Ohmisterporter
Some of the Matchbox models are made to slightly odd scales like the Allchin at 1:80 but don't look out of place on a 00 layout. http://www.matchboxmemories.com/
