Satan's Goldfish
I've just caught on a 1989 ecml YouTube video a class 31 heading up a container train. A quick search for images on Google for similar threw up very little apart from this: http://www.theaylesburynews.com/images/Up%20freightliner%20ambergate.jpg Same livery and similar length train as the video, but definitely a different service as the front flat was empty on the video. This has got me thinking, in all the books I have on freightliner, containers, and airbraked freight, I don't think I've ever seen a 31 on containers before. Was this a regular occurrance for shorter container services that mostly slipped past Unnoticed? Or are they more likely just filling in for a 37/47 gone u/s and the video/camera user just got lucky? Fat Controller
They didn't seem to work that many container trains. The only views in 'Life and Times- Freightliner' are of short trains from Lawley St to Beeston and Dudley to Lawley St.
Titan
Did see a class 31/37 combo on the GE in lieu of the usual double headed 37's once in the early 1980's
