RMweb Premium keefer Posted April 4, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 4, 2017 The Hunterston-Ravenscraig ore trains usually had 3 x 37s on the front for the Holytown bank section, but sometimes a class 26 was added to the 2 x 37s. The assisting loco was added to the front as banking from the rear had caused a couple of accidents previously. IIRC the Llanwern ore trains also often used 3x37s, both of these trains used the 100t PTA rotary tipplers in fixed rakes
GordonC
I dont think there was any 56s or 60s at Motherwell at that time. They would have been later on before they became more common bearing in mind Ravenscraig closed in 1992 and the Class 60s took quite a while to get working properly

They went over to 2x56 in summer 1979, and were a single 60 by the early 1990s.
black and decker boy
Raivanscraig went to 60s as they were introduced circa 1989/1990 with the 37s displaced initially onto the long distance finished products to England & Wales and also into the Scottish engineers pools. 60017 and 60030 were two of the early locos used in the training of crews. The South Wales flows went to pairs of 37/7s after the 56s before going over to single class 60s. They also had a period of using 59/1s hired from ARC during a downturn in stone traffic.
