Guest 838rapid Posted March 25, 2010 Share Posted March 25, 2010 They have run up the power unit that is now installed,but i guess it needs to be running under load to get a realistic sound from it. I understand is an ex industrial generator unit although it has the same power unit as the 15 had. Seems to have been a very good find to assist the restoration of the loco. Supaned Posted March 25, 2010 Share Posted March 25, 2010 Just to clarify , the replacement Paxman power unit obtained for D8233 is an ex-loco power unit from a class 15 or 16 . Presumably , when they were broken up the power units were sold on ; this particular one had had an industrial generator bolted on to produce a more useable electrical output. The project to resurrect D8233 (and D5705) is very ambitious , but one which I believe deserves a lot of support - these are the sole survivors of their type - if they were steam powered they'd have been in the NRM a long time ago.
