Nogent sur Seine station

Nogent sur Seine would make an excellent basis for a model railway, as there are sidings serving a grain warehouse alongside the platforms. The station opened in 1848 on the line of the Montereau and Troyes railway which became part of the Est system.

This picture shows the station in 1947; the whole area to the left of the line is now occupied by a huge rail served grain warehouse.

This view looks very similar today; the chimneys have gone of course, and the grain silos are a new addition.

The goods shed seen beyond the station building survived until relatively recently but has gone now. The track that ran alongside it is still there, though, as is the dip in the platform where it crossed.

Nogent nuclear power station can be seen in the distance.

A stopping train from Paris enters the station in about 1910.

Below is a shot for a similar angle; the canopy and footbridge are new, the water tank has gone and the road bridge is a recent construction in concrete.

The tracks on the right lead into the grain warehouse sidings; although they were empty when we visited the rails are shiny.

Below is the view in the other direction; in a shed in the distance was a Locotracteur.

While we were there this brand new Bimodal unit came into the station; they have replaced the Class 72000's on loco hauled trains.

I have never seen so much equipment on the roof of a train!
