MGR Hooper!
The folks at KW Trams are very kind and helpful I was able to get some good ideas about the dimensions of the 38mm bogie. They will swap out the 9mm wheels for 14mm ones for me. They've also offered to grind down the chassis and add a suitable mounting on it. All for a good price. I cannot wait to get my hands on it. MGR Hooper!
20170628_123235_HDR.jpg I will just leave this here... And I personally feel this would be a good time to re-name this topic as.... Atlas Legendäre E-Loks HO scale static Class 81 RTP Class 81 makes it sound ike RTP is a brand name. I managed to make a quick 3D model of the KW Trams 38mm bogie with 14mm wheels. I've made a before and after (with chassis shortened) model. Posted a couple of pictures. But is it not going to be a bit fast with 14mm wheels and lacking in "grunt". Fine, perhaps, if you just want a model for a depot layout but it might not haul much. alexturner2
Here's what I've done with mine. Not finished yet, still got the etched cab side numbers to add and light weathering to do. The Fox Transfer etches are slightly over scale but I don't care. Combination of brush and aerosol paint job as my air brush packed in. For a pocket money project it's a lot of fun. I printed out the head codes from a few photo.
MGR Hooper!
I've managed to buy a Sommerfeldt single arm pantograph for mine to repalce the stock one. With reference to the early blue or electric blue liveries, does anyone have any good close up pictures of the cast iron emblem and numbers? I'd like to etch some to fit the HO scale model.

Wildcard but maybe Try kalkomanie.com (you may need to use chrome/translate to send them an email, they used to have them listed). They do HO transfers for EP07-1051 (this is pkp EU07 painted in BR blue livery which carries the cycling lion on its sides). There is a whole page here, including lion close ups. http://www.flickriver.com/photos/tags/ep071051/interesting/ Edited September 23, 2017 by adb968008

RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted September 23, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 23, 2017 (edited) They are Class 83's. CharlieNot quite, PKP is 3000v DC, not 25kv AC. The lion on the side of EP07-1059 was made in U.K. I think 2006 and applied as a special paint job in 2007. The transfers I referred to would be in HO scale for the Piko or Schliesenmodelle EU07, for Polish modellers wanting to paint it. (I don't think theres much demand in Poland for a class 81 or 83 in OO or HO :-) the BR lion on wheel etches are those painting this EP07 in HO but I'd wager they will be better sized than OO scale ones on a HO class 81. I just checked their site and they are off stock anyway, will need to email and ask. I'm thinking about using a Heljan class 17 chassis for mine, it's a close fit (and its slim), plus there's loads of dead ones out there from Gear-gate days. RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted September 23, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 23, 2017 (edited) Another wild card, maybe easier, is to use a lion off D1000 Western Enterprise, this looks smaller than the lion on the side of a OO gauge class 85, so also could be a substitute for a HO scale one ? MGR Hooper!
I thought of getting some Lions and numbers etched in nickel silver along with other parts I needed.
MGR Hooper!
With mine during the winter break, I'll be hoping to do the following:- - Motorize it with 2x KW-Trams motor bogies.- Add Kadee couplers.- Adding some more detailing.- Upgrade to a Sommerfeldt single arm pantograph.- Replace the handrails for finer ones.- Add directional lighting.- Repaint it into a fictional electric blue livery (see the link for reference)- Add etched crests and numbers E3003 and 81003 (see image) similar to "Les Ross". Will also add a personalized nameplate.Livery I will base my model on - electric blue with headlightshttps://photos.smugmug.com/Trains/Class-81/i-4L2fnzB/0/338a2151/L/81002-L.jpgMy simplified "Lion Crest" which I hope to have etched once I have an approximate set of dimensions. Also I'd like to know if replicating (not 100% accurate) a crest such as this "Lion Crest" would be an issue? Is it something copyrighted or anything like that?Cheers!
