Farish Class 40 with sound (371-183DS)

Hi, Santa came early and delivered my first sound enabled loco - very impressive!

I've been running it around my test track, playing with all the listed commands, this adds a whole new level of FUN!

I've got one question, the chip settings allows me to coast this loco, turn the throttle down to zero and then use F2 to brake to a stop.  Is it possible to do this with other chips? I know there is the braking delay, on the new Class 40 it is set to 150, but how can I use F2 or similar to brake?

I tend to use Lenz silver mini chips and Lenz or Roco handsets.

Merry Christmas!

Makes you wonder how we ever managed without brakes doesn't it?

This loco uses a ZIMO sound decoder. The Braking effect is part of the sound project. All ZIMO decoders have the ability to produce this effect if the software is updated.

Not all ZIMO sound projects have the Brake Feature incorporated.

All my ZIMO sound projects, steam or diesel, have the brake feature on F2 (Since most DCC systems can have momentary action on F2). They are available exclusively from Digitrains.

ESU have fairly recently introduced a braking feature - you will need to find out which projects have the feature assigned.

Braking is also available on ZIMO non-sound decoders.

Not available on Lenz decoders, but your DCC systems can access F2 so can operate the feature on decoders which have it.

Check out ZIMO MX600 or MX618N18 (non-sound version of the decoder used in the Class 40) as an alternative to the Lenz Mini Silver. Cheaper and more fully featured?

Kind regards,

Paul

Paul, thanks for your reply.  I've had a look at different Next 18 decoders, picked up a Bachmann (believe re-branded Zimo) which I have replaced my soundchip with.  I've got so many non-sound locos that I've decided sound is not for me at this time.  I've attempted to check on the brake option (F2) but it doesn't appear to be available, I'll keep looking at other Zimo Next 18 decoders as I'd happily pay more for this great function!
