RAY NORWOOD
URIE G16 loco. The markits URIE safety valves and cowling came yesterday so today I fitted them on and they looked so much better, then I made a start on the roof. I had to roll the roof then soldered it on top of the cab, then soldered the the roof supports and the rain strip. I put the front sand box's on the chassis (I forgot them when doing the chassis). I got a zimo sound decoder and a sugar cube speaker from Digitrains when we was at Stafford show last month, I fitted it in the chassis between the frames in front of the front driving wheels. I had fitted some extra bits such as pipes and a plate in front of the tanks filling caps by the side of the cab.

RAY NORWOOD
I ran the G16 on Hounslow Sidings at The Nailsea show over the weekend and Richard and I was talking in the car coming home about the G16 on how she ran and we think it would be good to run it on Hounslow Sidings along with the Q1 as both engine would be at home shunting on Hounslow Sidings.
RAY NORWOOD
After the busy weekend at Nailsea, I have just scratch built this little step so the fireman can climb into the bunker to push some coal down. This step was not in the kit.
RAY NORWOOD
I have put a Halfords Gray etch primer on my G16, then it will be air brushed with gloss black and paint brush the buffer beam red, then I will put the transfers on and then air brush mat varnish. The chassis I have weathered the frames and put some gloss varnish on the wheel to look like oil.

Anglian
It does indeed look fabulous. Were these the tanks that were used to strengthen the available locomotive fleet to cope with the Ascot race traffic?May I ask what brands of matt and gloss varnish you'll be using? Horsetan
.... Were these the tanks that were used to strengthen the available locomotive fleet to cope with the Ascot race traffic?... You may be confusing them with the H16 4-6-2T tanks, which did see some passenger service.

There was only four G16's built they were for Feltham MPD to work in Feltham yard on the up and down humps. The mat and gloss varnish is Humbrol. RMweb Premium DLT Posted March 31, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 31, 2018 Hi Ray, The G16 looks fab, I would like to have a crack at that kit. I see you are painting with all the pipework and bits and pieces in place, does this not make it awkward to paint? All the best, Dave.
RAY NORWOOD
Hi Dave. Have to have a steady hand to paint all the pipe work, some of the pipe work go dark over time. That is the way I always have done it Dave. Your K10 is looking good as well.

RAY NORWOOD
I have weathered this Urie G16 with my air brush and using a brush I put some gloss varnish down the tanks just under the tank filler and used metalcote on the handrails and steps to show as polished metal. All ready to lower the body onto the chassis and fit the boggie.

RAY NORWOOD
I started to build an old Airfix kit with a Comet Chassis a few month's ago. The chassis has all three driving axles sprung and I did a lot of cutting and changing the main frames for the Airfix body. The body sides I sanded the moulded details of as it did not look right, I will put the rivets back using Archers Rivet Transfers. The smoke deflected are etched brass. The boiler front smoke box door is replaced with white metal wins from RT Models, and ash pans are white metal from RT Models. The back of cab is white metal as well with the drawbar below cab is also White metal also from RT Models. I have some pics of the chassis. I will post when I find them.

RAY NORWOOD
I have started on the tender. I rubbed the ladders off and the moulded lines down the tender sides also cut the coal out and made a false bottom to out real coal in. I got brass vacuum cylinders to put behind the coal bunker and cut the water filler top off and put a white metal one there and a hard water treatment cover. I also put a bottom to the tender so I have some where to fit pick ups to This what it all looks like when put together. Still got more to do on the tender. RAY NORWOOD
A bit more work on the Airfix WC loco. I have cut the ladders off at the back of the tender and fitted white metal ones and also fitted lose wax steps on the front and back of tender, I used brass wire to make a bar for the engine to tender coupling. Got to think about the vacuum brake cylinders that go behind the buffer beam.
