Keen Couplings

Anyone on the forum have experience of using the Keen buckeye coupling to replace the 2 pin couplers supplied with the kit.

Yes, they look better and work fine. Be sure to fettle them to allow them to slide allowing vertical movement otherwise you may find bogies lifting off the track.

As suggested by Martin in his post, these do fit together very tightly and, without a bit of fettling, that can cause issues under some conditions, notably changes of gradient, by being too stiff within the train.

 

Like the standard links, they are great if you leave trains undisturbed on the layout. If you exhibit, regularly swap stock over, or reform trains check out the Roco auto-coupler heads, which are much more convenient for that kind of thing.
