Anyone produce a Bulleid 4 SUB emu cab?

Recommended Posts

I'm doing some early ponderings on building some "what if" train projects and one that has come to mind is a Bulleid outer suburban semi fast emu design, like a very early 4VEP unit.

I'm planning to use the old Ian Kirk kits that Phoenix Precision are now reproducing as I'll need to modify the sides for some different seating arrangements and I think they will be easier to cut up. But my plan for the cab end is to use the same design as used on the Southern Railway 4 SUBS, rather than the BR design.

Does anyone produce a whitemetal, resin or plastic cab face to that design in 4mm. So far internet searches have proved a bit fruitless.

Isn’t the unit you’re busily inventing the postwar-built Tin HAL? Or rather, two of them coupled together, which is how they usually operated?

There weren’t very many of them, so photos are a bit hard to find, but if you google ‘2 HAL emu’, then select images, and look for the ones with flat fronts, you will find a couple.

And, this chap is producing a kit of it! http://www.southernregionmodels.co.uk/brass-kits/tin-hal-brass/

And, he only lives just down the road from you.

I can supply a white metal Bulleid 4 Sub cab front + buffers for £3 each = £6 per unit + £1.50 P&P - chriskthomas@waitrose.com

Yes I think £40 just for the cab ends is a bit pricey as the rest of the kit will be unused.

Yes sort of but my idea is that 4 car units were built in the immediate post war period '45-'46, Using Bulleid existing coaching stock design as a basis to partly supplement existing COR, LAV, HAL & BIL units and replace stock destroyed during the war. But it's all just a bit of playing about and nothing is written in stone yet.....I have to get the money sorted out to start doing this and some of the other ideas I'm having.
