sem34090
Hi All, I'm currently investigating options for a signalbox to sit on my proposed LBSCR Layout (Ripped off Inspired by 'Handcross' in the February edition of Railway Modeller), and have hit something of a dead end following the demise of the ABM Railcraft range at some stage. I am preferably looking for a kit to represent the Saxby & Farmer 1857, 1868 or 1876 design, the latter appearing to be the basis for the erstwhile ABM kit. If not a kit, could someone possibly suggest a set of drawings which could be used to form the basis of a 2D, 3D or scratchbuilt model? As an aside, I recently found this kit for what appears to be an LSWR type 4 'box adapted for platform mounting: https://www.inthegreenwoodlaser.co.uk/collections/oo-gauge-modelling/products/sb002-signal-box-type-2-oo-gauge-laser-cut-kit I will very probably buy one of the above kits for a possible LSWR layout, or for my future BR (Southern, ex-LSWR) layout. Regards, sem34090
Skinnylinny
I see Alphagraphix seem to produce a 4mm scale card kit for a Saxby & Farmer Type 5 signal box as used on the LB&SCR, though I don't know if it would be early enough for you as I can't find a date for that design. Also a thought, isn't the Wills 4mm plastic timber signal box kit an S&F design? Or is it completely the wrong design for you?
sem34090
I had heard about the alphagraphix kit, and (although the wrong colour!) It is suitable, but I've yet to work out where to buy it.
Nearholmer
DIdnt someone sell models of Withyam box in resin? Note sure of the date (1866, I just checked) of that one, but classic S&F small box. Yes, Hornby R8589, I think, although it looks a bit crude. Skinnylinny
The UK Model Shop Directory provides a phone number here for Alphagraphix, and I believe they sell to the public direct. Might be worth dropping him a call?
Nearholmer
Hornby r8955 looks relevant too, with the same limitation.
Branwell
Freestone look like they have the Alphagraphix kit - http://www.freestonemodel.co.uk/page37.htm (about halfway down).

sem34090
I checked them... Still, no drawings for obscure* Craven-Era locos?! You're not on form in that respect this time! *By obscure, please note that I use that term with regards obscurity to modern eyes. It must be appreciated that ALL Craven era locos are obscure to modern eyes.
andrewwaite1
LCUT make a platform mounted LSWR signal box in 4mm scale. http://lcut.co.uk/index.php?product=SR%2055c&title=SR%2055c Here is a ground mounted version to a similar design in Southampton : https://signalbox.org/gallery/s/chapelcrossing.php Edited February 14, 2018 by andrewwaite1
sem34090
I noticed the Lcut one, and it's quite nice, but still not LBSCR!
Edwardian
The answer to everything you desire would have been ABM Railcraft kit, but the owner announced illness and packed up. I have failed to gain any response; frankly it's a range worth buying and resurrecting.
sem34090
Quite: I regret not buying any of his kits beforehand. If I had this thread wouldn't exist!

Sadly I don't have a list of the complete range of ABM kits
Baldwin30762
Hi all I think this is an update to why ABM models have not been about for sometime https://letsgoloco.co.uk/ Regards Colin Rainsbury
Baldwin30762
Had a reply from his widow and she tell me Michael was not involved with the kits but a guy by the name of Alan Mansfield was the owner of them, for some reason he has ceased trading does anyone have any contact with him?
RMweb Gold Nick C Posted August 7, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 7, 2020 A somewhat late reply to the original topic here - @sem34090, have you seen the "amodelrailway" card kit, based on Drayton? http://www.amodelrailway.co.uk/shop/contents/en-uk/d10_lbscrsignalbox.html 1
