SGJ
Hi Simon I was watching some YouTuber filming on December 01, 2018 at BNS aka Birmingham Grand Central as it now seems to be called, as appose to Birmingham New Street, and once a day around 3:50pm you get the Cross Country HST with the Mk3 Coaches and [interesting to note that MK3 Buffer Car is always different to the rest of the Standard MK3 Buffer Car Coaches in the sense, there are just Two Windows Blanked Out, on the One Side Only of the coach, so out of the 8 Windows on each side, you get on the Buffer Side (Window1 Seated, Window2 Blanked Out, Window3 Blanked Out, Window4 Seated, Window5 Seated, Window6 Seated, Window7 Seated, Window8 Seated) and on the other Side they are all See through Windows with No Blacked Out Windows, and where the Two Blanked Out Windows are on the Buffet Side of the coach, On the other side, you just get a Narrow High Bar like Table to put Milk & Sugar in your Tea and Coffee]. Sadly Hornby have never released it, so its one of those coaches you need to purchase One normal Cross Country Coach and two Blacking windows for the one side, Just a side point on the Buffet Car Coach, if you are into detailing. However.... on the YouTube Clip I was watching the Cross Country HST came in and the YouTuber was commenting on the New Door Upgrade and they now have all been modified to New Sliding Doors, which was quiet clear to see and look ok but I did wonder If those coaches were actually the New MK5's. I say this, based on the Total Cost to Modify Every MK3 Coach from Slam Shut Doors to Sliding Doors with Push Button (Open/Close), and being on MK3's as this guy said, but if the New MK5's are dues out they will be replacing all MK3's or so I would think, so it seems a bit bizarre to go into all that Costing of every MK3 Door Upgrade to then write them off as most MK3's are HST Raked and the HST themselves are also being replaced to. I may be wrong on this and if anyone knows different I would be happy to hear, if the New Mk5 Coaches will be replacing the MK3 Coaches. Regards Jamie I am not sure on the recent happenings with mk3s or HSTs but Scotrail I think has some shortened sets as far as I know which replaced some other stock that has gone to other operators like northern etc. I dont think HST power cars are compatible with mk1 mk2 mk4 or mk5 stock because of a differing train supply, likewise mk3 HST stock ( not west coast mk3 ) is not compatible with loco hauled stock for the same reason. So it would probably be cheaper to have power doors on mk3 HST stock than re engineer the train supply on over 190 power cars to a more wide spread train supply which would in turn have to re fit MK3 HST stock to the more wide spread train supply for the remaining mks3s that are not replaced with mk5s if that were to happen. I dont know the exact details of such stuff but when I was on the railways many years ago that was roughly what we were told ( except the electric doors mk3s and mk5s, the mk5 wasn't thought of and the mk3 were all slam door back then ) . When the 91s came in on the ECML in the early days the HST DVTs were used for train supply with the MK3 HST stock as well as other reasons such as to save the 91s running round at Leeds or London, but the 89 always had to run round in Intercity days ( I think it was only when GNER used the 89 with MK4s that it didn't need to run round ). Its all technical stuff and money related, and Im never good with that Simon

SGJ
Looks good a few dogfish would look good along with it David I don`t like the price of the Heljan Dogfish, just shy of £100 for 4 ( http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/p/57609/K4103-Heljan-Dogfish-Exclusive-Pack-of-4---BR-Civil-Engineers ) they look great though, at that price you can get 5 tope . Speaking of which I just got another tope from Frizinghall this morning.
SGJ
45128 had a busy afternoon, dropped off a rake of VGA`s and picked up an engineers train ( and lost its traction tire in the process - I wish I could find it! ), with the new Topes and the Grampus`s

Its all technical stuff and money related, and Im never good with that Simon Power doors are not the only issue; to continue in service, they would also have to be fitted with retention toilets. Both door and toilet works that have been carried out so far have revealed corrosion issues, which has meant conversion taking longer than planned.

SGJ
08021 is the last locomotive to haul a train on this layout, it is getting dismantled now. There is some work on the house that needs doing, replacement joists, floorboards and plastering all being done by professionals, it is too big of a job for me to do. After the work is all done then I will think about Metalet ( mk2 ) the proper layout. it again has been fun like Armley Moor and a great journey with ideas etc Simon

SGJ
well the house has been done however were hopefully going to be moving soon, after a break from modelling with the house refurbishment etc it has given me a thought to re do carr crofts but more of a free of location layout but will include a scrap yard and depot. Nothing except a plank will be done for the time being until the house move around March time and will be put on the Carr Crofts thread
