RMweb Premium Chamby Posted April 9, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 9, 2018 Fox transfers produce the interim BRITISH RAILWAYS lettering in Gill Sans font, used after nationalisation in 1948 until the 'cycling lion' totem was introduced in May '49. They produce it in three colours - yellow, cream and white. Does anyone know which one is the correct colour to use on LNER apple green locomotive tenders during this period? The modern Tornado uses cream lettering, but is this correct for the original loco's? It is difficult to tell the correct colour from the few photographs of the period, and I have yet to find a definitive reference source. Thanks in anticipation, Phil. Butler Henderson
On the evidence of the paintshops applying pre nationalisation lettering styles apple green locos would had primrose yellow lettering, as that was the last LNER style.
