Backscene - height, fixings, materials etc

Recommended Posts

None of the layouts I have built in the past have had a backscene, so I have a few questions:

Background: I am building a branch line terminus (in 00), 10’ x 8’ in an L shape on 2’ deep Boards. The layout will be operated from a sitting position using the ‘Kirby’ uncoupling method.

My questions are:

1. Preferred backscene height?

2. Preferred thickness?

3. Preferred fixing method?

I would prefer the backscene to be easily removable (and replaced) for maintenance (the baseboards have been built to be easily separated and removed- this will not be exhibited but I am mindful of the need for maintenance and would like to allow for the layout to be easily moved if necessary.

One other thought is to add a ‘proscenium’ (is that the right word? !!) like exhibition layouts, so that I can have a ‘roof’ and either curtains or drop down flaps at the front to keep light and dust out
