Buhar
Jenkinson and Essery don't specify the colour of tank tops on red tank engines, I'm assuming it's black (which would accord with tender tops, footplate and splashers tops) but what about those (mostly Scots) locos with a curve between the tank tops and sides? Any help appreciated.
Poor Old Bruce
I would assume there would be a lined panel on the tank side with black above. Can I also assume from your question you have no suitable photos? Richard
Buhar
That's what I'm guessing, but I was hoping to be sure. Red livery on tank engines didn't last much beyond 1928, and those that did would have been pretty scruffy. I've looked at many, many photos but distingishing red and black from photos of that period is pretty tricky due to the emulsions used. Additionally, the classic side or three-quarter view doesn't help much, were 1920s photographers scared of heights?
