sncf231e
The Italian company Amati made a kit in gauge 1 for an Orient Express CIWL sleeping car. I am building this kit, which has a very detailed interior. Since this interior cannot be seen easily when the kit is finished I made a some video shots before going further: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDXIoavh2bM Regards Fred

sncf231e
How absolutely wonderful! Very well done and what a way to travel in real life. I look forward to seeing the finished article, please? Cheers, John. Thank you, I will show the finished sleeping car but it might take a while. The sides and roof have to be spray painted and the weather is not good enough for that (since I do that in my garage; I might have to wait till spring. The kit already took 5 months building. sncf231e
Since the weather was better the last weeks I picked up the Amati kit again. I finished the corridor wall with paint, striping and lettering and glued it to te body of the car: The windows can be opened and closed, which the conductor is doing: View through the open compartment door to the corridor; the windows could be cleaner: 5

sncf231e
After about a year the Amati kit of the gauge 1 CIWL sleeping car is completed below the roof. Here is a video of the result: Some pictures (more pictures on my website: http://sncf231e.nl/amati-kit-for-a-ciwl-lx-sleeping-car/) Regards Fred Edited August 8, 2019 by sncf231e
RMweb Gold Barry Ten Posted August 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 8, 2019 Absolutely phenomenal job, Fred. I've seen this kit advertised in Loco Revue but had no idea of the complexity, or how marvellous it would look when finished. And it must be very nice to be able to run it in a train, as well. sncf231e
Now the roof is complete (note that the central part of the roof is removable to show the interior). The Amati kit did not have correct parts for the roof ends (which have multiple roundings), so I made new parts. More pictures and videos of this sleeping car on my website: http://sncf231e.nl/amati-kit-for-a-ciwl-lx-sleeping-car/ Regards Fred Edited September 9, 2019 by sncf231e
sncf231e
Amati CIWL LX sleeping car running in Le Train Bleu in the garden LX sleeping car build from a kit (finished except some interior ceiling detail, but capable of running) at the end of the train. The locomotive is an ASTER live steam SNCF 141R (with a wrong head board of Le Mistral); the further carriages are J&M Models LX sleeping car, Restaurant car, Train Bleu Salon-bar and Fourgon. sncf231e
After fifteen months of construction, I have finished building the Amati CIWL sleeper kit. It already ran last weekend but now the final details such as the ceiling of the interior are also ready. See the photos and the video. More photos can be seen on my website: http://sncf231e.nl/amati-kit-for-a-c...-sleeping-car/ With the end of the construction it is time for a conclusion: It is a very nice kit. Amati makes quality; all parts fit well and look good. Most model builders with some patience can assemble this kit. The description and drawings are also in order. And building was a long-term but enjoyable activity. Is there nothing to criticize: Yes there is something. If you are looking for a gauge 1 carriage to run on your track or a club layout then I would not recommend this kit. If you build it according to the description, it will not be able to run on a track. Furthermore, the built model, even if you make changes to make it run, is rather fragile and certainly not suitable to take to a club . sncf231e
Today I had a run with the Amati CIWL sleeping car in a Train Bleu pulled by the SNCF 232 U1 four cylinder compound 4-6-4 locomotive: Regards Fred 5
