johnofwessex
The model shop next to work has some at an attractive price. R4656A et al How appropriate are they for the S&D in the BR era I assume that even if they are not quite right for the period/location, they are not dis similar to stock used, in particular on the branch Edited December 21, 2018 by johnofwessex
RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted December 21, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 21, 2018 (edited) Some of the coaches used on the local services around Bath were of this type and others were older but of generally similar outline, with panelled bodywork. They generally ran in pairs (sometimes one of each sort) and the usual combination was a composite plus brake third, sometimes coupled van inward, sometimes at one end. Van inward was more convenient for station work at smaller intermediate stops as the doors would come to rest in roughly the same spot in either direction. Porters could therefore have trolleys in place ready to transfer items on and off the train before it arrived. Canopies at such stations were short so it also ensured the van could be loaded and unloaded out of the weather, protecting parcels etc., Given that Bachmann have the appropriate 0-4-4T under development, I'm hoping we might see the panelled non-corridors from them sometime.
