Jollibob
Hello everyone and happy Christmas. This is my first post on Rmweb so please be gentle. Anyway, I thought it was about time that I put something up on here, I read many post and have found them be very inspiring, enough to make me be brave enough to try some modifications out myself. So here we go. A couple of months ago I tried to convert a Farish generic coach into and LMS push/pull coach. It went horribly horribly wrong. So for a while it kind of sat on my workbench whilst I figured out what to do with it. Then whilst I was at work, I had an idea, I will convert it into a small bogie coach. I do apologise for these pictures, I wasn't originally going to put them up on here. But I promise the next one will be much more presentable. I was going to put them on Dapol B set bogies but I've settle for the Farish ones instead. And this is it so far, I'm currently waiting for parts to come through the post before I can move forward. More to come. Rob.
Jollibob
Disaster strikes! This loco has given me nothing but grief since I started repainting it. Now that I got all the transfers finished, I sprayed it with some gloss varnish and disaster, they start to wrinkle up! What went wrong?
Jollibob
Silly me. It helps when I actually add the picture....
RMweb Premium Nile Posted January 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 1, 2019 Some questions for you: What transfers did you use? How long between applying them and spraying the varnish? What varnish did you use?
Jollibob
Some questions for you: What transfers did you use? How long between applying them and spraying the varnish? What varnish did you use? Hi Niel, I think just asking me those questions, its kind of sunk in what I did wrong. Transfers are fox transfers. I think I applied the lining back in November but had only just got around to finishing it. The Vanish I used was Humbrols Acrylic Gloss varnish which I used first before applying the lining and another layer when I finished everything. Thanks Rob. RMweb Premium Nile Posted January 2, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 2, 2019 T'is an odd one. Maybe some sort of reaction between the transfers and the varnish propellant (I'm assuming it was an aerosol). For a gloss coat I use Humbrol Clear, a modern equivalent of Klear. I've not had any problems so far.
Jollibob
Well I decided to go back to square one and start stripping it of paint and starting again, I'll come back to that one again. Until then, Back to the coach. I still need to get some wire for handrails and order some gas lamps on the roof. Rob.
Jollibob
It's been a while since I was last on here, but work commitments have unfortunately have more priority. A second attempt at the lining on my jinty worked and all I have to is give it an identity. Also, there are a couple of other wagons that I'm working on in between frustration gaps.
Jollibob
Also the pictures look terrible when zoomed in with a camera. Normal viewing distances and it's not too bad.
RMweb Premium Nile Posted March 24, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 24, 2019 Nice livery, that lining looks very neat.
Jollibob
Hi everyone, I haven't been here in ages. Lots of problems in life that either distract me or or just make me sleepy. My coach thus far. I try and finish it today, All I have to do is transfers, varnish and stick the bogies on, Which I haven't worked a way of how to do yet... Also, Something else that I have just finished... Although a kit, You have to modify the motor housing, (that's not the right word), to make it fit the body. At least it looks good. It's also about 4mm wider than most stock so you could get away modifying it into an 009 gauge model as well. Maybe... I'm also not happy with my LNER bogie wagon. I just stripped it all down and started it again. This time I won't rush it. There is more to come and I catch you lot later? Rob.
Jollibob
Hi Guys, something else that I have just finished. I asked Wagoni on Shapeways if he could design a wagon for me. It's a bit of an oddball but I think it looks cool as hell. A link to his shop is here: https://www.shapeways.com/designer/wageni/creations and if you want to try out some 3d printed wagons in N then this is a good place to start. Regards Rob.
