Siphon208
Hi Guys, just wonder whether anyone can help with this? I have been asked by someone about pics of Green Lane Junction, and Rock Ferry station when all platforms were in use- I had some of when the Up Chester platform had all its buildings and the staircase up to the booking hall- does anyone on here have a few that they would be willing to post on here please- I cant find any of my old pics of these areas! Thanks in advance Dean Edited January 13, 2019 by Siphon208
billy_anorak59
I don't know if this is what you wanted, but here's a few of Rock Ferry I have to hand. I know not where I found most of them - if anyone objects to them being posted here, I'll remove. The first two were taken by a friend of mine in 1966/67. I have his permission to use them as I want, but I'll refrain from plastering his name all over the web, as he didn't give me permission for that! RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 15, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 15, 2019 That's a timespan of roughly 65 years Dean ... assuming we are talking the current station and current platforms. There was a huge amount of trackwork around Green Lane Junction until rationalisation started late 67 and beyond. I have a few officials of Rock Ferry station, the one above ^ ^ showing the inside of the booking office and the one below it are officials - I have several others. The bottom one is after the main line services finished as it's the new booking office which replaced the building on the bridge behind it.

Rock Ferry1.jpg Rock Ferry2.jpg Rock Ferry4.jpg Rock Ferry5.jpg Rock Ferry6.jpg Rock Ferry7.jpg Thanks so much for these, mate- I did have the one of the green DMU at the platform- no idea where it went! Also, some of Green Lane/ Blackpool street after some of the lines had gone- no idea where they are either! I have no intention of publishing them, they are firstly, to answer a question, and secondly, for my own archive. I am interested in Local rail history, and sad to say its demise over the last 60 od years! Dean

Dean I have some others of the dock system, again hidden somewhere, including a 47 on a rake of HEA's where one of them is derailed, and a '45 on a diverted football special, stopped at Green Lane! RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 19, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 19, 2019 Amazing mate- thanks a lot- when did these waiting rooms go, when Woodside closed? The lifts too? Dean Waiting room was in use until a good few years ago (1980s) and was then used as a store, in the few years it's been reopened again as a waiting room. The lifts went when parcels facilities were withdrawn, don't know the date but probably ca 1970
Siphon208
Just noticed this- the trackbed behind the signal post behind the Class 40- did that ever carry track? The building directly behind it seems to be Green Lane Low Level. Also, I found another image of Monks Ferry station in my files- maybe useful if anyone is planning a layout? The third image has to be one of my favourites, although it was taken up at Hooton, where the Heath Lane sidings once stood- a '40 on an Octel tank trip from Amlwch.I did have another black and white image of one of these '40s coming up from Spital, on the up goods- not sure where that has gone though! And finally, Freight on the Up Fast heading towards Rock Ferry- I think it maybe a Black Five? I'm not sure, I know someone will have the answer! RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 24, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 24, 2019 The colour light signal half way down the class 40 train was brought into use on 12/07/1982 so the photo is post that date. Looks like a Black 5 to me too, and a DMU on the down slow heading for Woodside. Re Green Lane. There was never a high level, so it's simply Green Lane, or The Mersey Green Lane. Not sure which track bed you are referring to - most of that scene would have had tracks at some stage !

Siphon208
To clarify- the trackbed to the left of the semafore signal to the left of the’40. Green Lane station buildings beyond. Dean

Wheels are too small for a 5 and the start of the number looks like 48. Always disliked that white painting on locos but there was a bit a vogue for it by enthusiasts at that time. They seemed to think it looked good . . . Cammell Lairds in the background, you can just make out the outline of the camel above the C L & Co. Always looked for the camel on the way out of Woodside! The signals are in the photo, one at the base of the home and distant and one to the right of the rear end of the 40. The missing track over the bridge led to the shed. rally
just wanted to say thank you for everyone for sharing their content so far! I am planning a layout based upon a rationalised layout of tracks between green lane junction, blackpool street and as far as bridge street cutting before canning street north, and these images and knowledge have been invaluable
