RMweb Premium Loxborough Posted April 25, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 25, 2010 For my 2010 challenge I am building a small yard off a fictional GER branch (dated 1947). The sidings will serve a large agricultural merchants and I figured a cattle dock might be in order. I'm trying to be a bit original, though, and was wondering whether, given the very occasional use that the dock would have had, they might have built it out of timber rather than going to the expence of a proper/conventional brick thing. So, the question is, does anyone know whether timber built cattle docks did in fact exist (all the photos I can find are brick or stone) and if so, are there any images available? Grateful for any insights. George
Guest stuartp
The one at Goathland is timber, it's a reproduction but according to the notice on it it's a copy of the original. http://www.mylearning.org/image-zoom.asp?jpageid=1684&picid=
RMweb Premium Loxborough Posted April 27, 2010 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 27, 2010 Stuart, Many thanks for that; I guess I now have my prototype! George
RMweb Premium Loxborough Posted May 2, 2010 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 2, 2010 Just to prove it wasn't a totally spurious question.... Based LOOSELY on the prototype (and incomplete; I'll finish the deck when I get some more sleepers...). Thanks again Stuart, George
