CCGWR
Hi Everyone, I am putting some etched number plates on a loco and am wondering if is okay to varnish the loco after or will this damage the plates. I have weathered over plates before and it turned out fine but thought it would be safe to clarify first. Regards Connor
DCB
Depends on the varnish, some of mine went milky. If you don't varnish the plates will tarnish over time, maybe do a test on some scrap plates first. 1
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted February 12, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 12, 2019 (edited) I've recently added etched plates to a pre-weathered loco, weathered the plates separately and brush painted a coat of enamel clear over the top (of the plates only) I have no idea if what I've done is right or wrong though, I'm only a novice modeller Edited February 12, 2019 by chuffinghell
Spitfire2865
As long as your varnish coats arent too thick and you let them properly dry you shouldnt be getting hazing on them. Ive used spray varnish on etched brass before to good effect. 1
