Think this is my first post here. So here it goes. Myself and my dad are(father and son project) currently building a small N gauge terminus station layout based loosely on Fort William on the west highland line. In terms of stock I intend to run it mainly between 1988 and 1995 which will allow br blue large logo up to early privatisation I. E. Transrail but I also intend switch between late 80/early 90s and present day which is what most of my current stock is. The layout is 4ft x 1ft plus the same again to make the fiddle yard. I'm currently part way through the wiring having fitted all the point motor's and hoping to make a start on the track feeds, isolation zones and fitting the easi shunt magnets. Below is a picture of the current state of the layout.

Hi CJ,

Looks like you've made an excellent start there. Very interesting prototype and should be a plan that offers lots of operational interest.

Keep sharing your progress. I look forward to seeing this develop.

Thanks David,

it's been just about 12 months since starting. so progress is slow and my job of being a tennis coach and other commitments means i don't have much free time to myself but i'm hoping to crack on and finish most of the wiring.

it's just a case of saving the pennies for the transformer and controller plus the scenery. once that's done i can go nuts on buying locos and more  rolling stock etc.

Chris

I forgot to mention that the layout is set in winter which means snow. i'm hoping to create this layout set in winter. which a lot of the scenary based on a trip to Delemere forest a couple years ago around xmas time as i get the xmas tree from the station there usually. will post of photo of what i'm hoping to achieve once i dig out my old phone with the picture on it.

Bit of an update on Loch Eaton. I've managed to cut and fit all the uncoupling magnets to the layout although I'm 2 short but I will pick those up at a later date. More recently I have wired all the point motor's, track feeds and insolations. Once that's all tested, I will start building the baseboard for the fiddle yard and finish the wiring. Slowly getting there.

Update on Loch Eaton,

Wiring on the scenic board has been completed and all seems OK. We've started on the baseboard for the fiddle yard now and at about a 3 through. The pic below was the first part which now has another top board on. Once the board is finished and painted I will then finish the wiring which shouldn't take long.

fiddle yard baseboard is around 2 thirds complete just the ends of the frame and bracing to cut and glue down plus a coat of paint. after that i can crack on with the remaining wiring and track laying. then onto the fun bit(not) ballasting.

no new updates on the layout as work is getting in the way. have brought some peco platform edging. fiddle yard baseboard has been built but needs attaching. once that's done it will pick up speed again. more updates soon hopefully(touch wood).

It's been a while since my last update on Loch eaton. i've very busy with work since my last post and things are starting to settle down again which means more time for modelling and running trains and more updates on the layout. i have been making some progress to finish the wiring with completing 1 of the 2 d plugs and also made a start on laying track onto the fiddle yard board. once the remaining wiring is completed and test things will move a bit quicker. more pics to follow soon hopefully.

Update on Loch Eaton, progress is speeding up again and will continue as I can't work with this virus going round. This means I have plenty of time to work on the layout and I've been doing so the last couple of days. The d plugs are both complete and tested. Just need to cut the wires down a bit. And I have layed the cork so of the track to the fiddleyard. Note the set track is only there temporarily while I wait for flexi track I ordered this morning. Bit more wiring to do as well which is mainly the control panel and the track feeds on the fiddle yard.

Big update on Loch Eaton,

Wiring is now 95% done with all that's left being related to the track feeds and the switch to flip control between the front and back. This will be done a somepoint when I can purchase a walkabout controller and transformer. The control panel is complete apart from the track diagram. Only job left is just just moving around a few wires from a d plug that I've somehow managed to cross over. I also replaced the set track in the fiddle yard with flexi which looks a lot better. This weekend will be spent testing all the stock I plan on using for the layout.

Next job will be Ballasting once I have practiced and then hopefully onto more scenary.

not much happening at the moment as i'm waiting on ballast to be delivered from rails of Sheffield. Once that arrives i'll spend a day or 2 practicing my ballasting and then i'll make a start on ballasting the layout. although to pass the time I've decided to teach myself  to respray a loco which i plan to use on a future layout i'm planning. picture to follow.

Big Update for Loch Eaton, its been a while since I posted on here and a lot has happened to Loch Eaton in that time. The most noticeable changes being that the platform is filled and the track has been ballasted. I still have to clean the ballast up a bit. Mainly removing any stuck to sleepers before I give it a light spray of red or similar to give it that Scottish look before weathering. Still lots to do. Like cleaning up the spaghetti junction of wires underneath.
