ess1uk
i've been hunting for my old spotting notes but ive mainly got just loco numbers. i didn't take that much notice of coaches (shame) some numbers i've scribbled down i cant even make any sense of, they may be unit numbers? some numbers i've not underlined in my 1989 platform 5 book which is odd as i usually did it the same night after a day out so i wouldn't forget also in my random notes for Waterloo-Exeter coaches that were branded NSE in blue and grey I've got a list of the rakes present on 22 April 1987. · 50016 5255, 5303, 5336, 6502, 17081, 17096, 5447, 5408, 5465 · 50010 5261, 5462, 5443, 17070, 17086, 6500, 5480, 5459, 5254 · 50041 3924, 3848, 4392, 13399, 35010, 5290, 3829, 95201, 93235 · 50047 5496, 5450, 5477, 17107, 17082, 6504, 5466, 5278, 5246 · 50050 5345, 5471, 5453, 6503, 17074, 17058, 5468, 5454, 5435 Coaches in Bold were in full NSE livery. Coaches in Italics still carried Inter-City on blue and grey. All other coaches (except the Mk1 rake behind 50041) were in blue and grey with NSE flashes and small branding. I think the Southern Mk1 stock received NSE branding (I really can't remember, nor can I find any photos) but i think most of them were reallocated from May 1987 anyway. 17086, 17082 and 5454 were three of the first coaches repainted with the numbers to the left and the logos to the right (the brakes had the logos in the centre where the brake end was to the right). Others like this were: 5265, 5303, 5381, 5448, 5462, 17069 and 17079.

I at least would be interested in them, I'm sure a few other coachaholics would do too. Cheers, Paul Apologies, my notes end in 1986, and even those weren't very good. Must have given up detailed coach recordings a year or so earlier. Never mind. Edited April 30, 2019 by eastwestdivide

LU_fan
bigP, thank you very much for the gallery link. I'm sure it will come in handy. As will the list that ess1uk provided. Only got to figure out what coach is what type, and I think the P5 books can help with that. Right...?

Yes, the coach numbers in the P5 books go from low to high in sequence - so look up the number and there will be a heading giving the coach type followed by build details, brake type, seating totals etc.

Probably a Padd-Oxford on that side (or maybe Newbury). The Network SouthEast logo on some of the blue/grey coaches: 1986 from the front seats of a DMU near Pangbourne/Goring-ish, probably an Oxford-Padd. Pretty much the same formation as the photo above: 3

The video I linked shows at least 4 full rakes. As a general pattern a mix of Mk1 and Mk2: Three to four SO/SK + a couple of either BSK, BFK, FK, FO + another three to five SO/SK. Guy Fair comment. I always thought the disparity of interest between freight and passenger vehicles (when considering rolling stock) was odd. There is a massive amount of material relating to wagons but coaching stock information is very hard to find. Griff
